Kitzbühel Special, part 5 – the ski huts
Whoever says Kitzbühel also says Wunderteam: Ernst Hinterseer, Hias Leitner, Christian Pravda, Fritz Huber, Anderl Molterer and Toni Sailer were the epitome of skiing heroes in the 1950s, all of them learned the sport in their home town of Kitzbühel. It was there, on the Seidlalm to be precise, that the Ski World Cup was invented in 1961. But Kitz is not only for international skiing heroes the ultimate, the skiing area of Kitzbühel offers 188 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes, heated 8-person lifts and the most modern cable cars. And in the middle of it all, a variety of huts that offer much more culinary than chips and Berner Würstel. We have found the best for you.
Seidlalm
Hansi Hinterseer grew up here, the idea for the Ski World Cup was born here. In the Seidlalm, located directly on the Hahnenkamm, guests are welcomed with heart and passion and with a cranberry pancake, which is virtually the signature dish of the hut.
Sonnbühel
Nestled in the breathtaking Kitzbühel landscape is the Spitzenskihütte, which has existed since 1924. It is considered THE hotspot of the Kitzbühel Alps and is probably also the oldest in the world. It can convince not only with a fantastic location, but also with an exceptional cuisine.
Hornköpflhütte
On the sunny side of Kitzbühel lies the Horn of the same name with its beautiful natural snow slopes. But even more important – here is also the Hornköpflhütte with its fantastic panoramic view over the Tyrolean mountains. The guest can expect an extraordinary mixture of rustic light-heartedness and alpine chic. And on top of that, a wine list that is second to none.
Tomschy
If you want it more exquisite, you should pay a visit to the ski lodge Tomschy. At 1,700 meters with 360-degree panoramic views of the wild Kaiser, the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Großglockner, a true paradise opens up. Here you can expect Danish furniture in a class of its own, the finest culinary arts, as well as a treasure trove full of delicious wines. If that doesn’t convince you yet, we’ll add one more: namely long nights with international DJs or Daypartys Deluxe. Welcome to the pleasure summit!
Mountain house Tirol
If you don’t want to miss a piece of history, the Berghaus Tirol, built in 1936, is made for you. It is in fact Alfons Walde’s last project on the Hahnenkamm. Hidden in the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps, at 1,750 meters, surrounded by an idyllic mountain scenery, the house enchants you with local delicacies. But the fun is not neglected here either. Musical hut evenings are part of everyday life here. Your children should not miss the highlight next to the Berghaus: the playground with swings and trampolines that will make the little ones’ hearts beat faster.
Milkalm
An alpine pasture in the middle of the Kitzbühel ski circus that could not be more cozy. Surrounded by the enchanting Kitzbühel scenery, you will be spoiled here with classic home cooking and indulgent desserts – and this in the fourth generation. The family business lives by the motto “come as a guest, leave as a friend” and is always eager to fulfill your stay according to your wishes – private parties are also on offer.
Hagstein
If you prefer to spend your stay in beautiful Kitzbühel in a more rustic and sociable way, then the Berggasthof is the right place for you. It is located directly on the “Hagstein” ski slope. For five generations, traditional cuisine as well as innovative own creations from our own farm have been served here at magnificent wooden tables. A little tip on the side: the natural snow slope No. 3 Hagstein is a must for all skiing lovers!
