Pure relaxation – wellness vacation in your bathtub
For many people, there is nothing more pleasant after a stressful day than a hot bath. We have five tips for you on how to transform your bathtub and bathroom into a “private spa”.
#1: Finding the right bathtub
Square, round or oval, freestanding or wall-mounted, with or without a rim – anything is possible when it comes to bathtub design. However, to ensure that it actually becomes a place of rest and relaxation, the eye alone should not be the deciding factor. The right size of bath is even more important for comfort: to be able to relax properly, the bath should be neither too short nor too long. If the former is the case, the legs must be set up. If it is too long, you will slide forward in the bath. The size of the bath is therefore ideal if you can comfortably stretch out your legs and immerse yourself up to your neck in the warm water without slipping. The tub should also be wide enough to allow plenty of room for the shoulders. Another important point is the angle of inclination of the back section: If it is too steep, you can sit well in the bath, but not necessarily lie comfortably.
#2: The right water temperature for the bathtub
Diving into the hot water is a blessing. But there are two things to bear in mind: water that is too hot can put a strain on your circulation and dry out your skin. A water temperature of between 36 and 38 degrees is therefore considered ideal for a relaxing full bath, for example according to Pastor Kneipp. If you want even more relaxation, invest in massage jets when you buy your bath.
#3: Enjoy a bubble bath with all your senses
Delicate fragrances, soft music, tea or juices – spa operators involve almost all the senses in their design. It doesn’t take much to turn your own bathtub into a private spa: a bath additive that caresses your skin and nose goes a long way. With your favorite soft music, a cup of tea, juice or a glass of wine and possibly a good book, the relaxation factor increases significantly. Perhaps you could also treat yourself to a soothing face mask?
#4: Dimmed light provides relaxation in the bathtub
Glaring spotlights are less conducive to relaxation. So make sure the light is subdued – many bathroom lights can be dimmed. Or light candles, perhaps even a scented candle?
#5: Extend the feel-good factor after the bath
To ensure that the relaxation doesn’t fizzle out as soon as you get out of the bath, extend the feel-good factor: make sure that the bathroom is also at a pleasant temperature, lay out soft, ideally pre-warmed towels and a cozy bathrobe. And treat your skin to moisturizing body care if you have avoided an oil bath.
