Reykjav\u00edk, with its impressive architecture and geothermal swimming pools, is considered one of the most exciting destinations in 2023 – and also one of the most expensive, according to an analysis by the travel blog Traveller’s Elixir. The city is the northernmost capital in the world and the largest in Iceland. Translated, Reykjav\u00edk means “smoking bay”. It probably got this name because of its numerous hot and steaming springs that exist there. Until the end of the 18th century, the Icelandic capital consisted only of a few farms, but now it is known for its artistic and musical talents. However, it can also convince with its numerous sights and events or first-class museums and galleries. And of course not to forget – with their northern lights. For shopping, stroll along Laugavegur Street and for sightseeing, take in the fascinating architecture of Hallgrimskirkja Church and the picturesque old harbor. Vestmannaeyjar<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The volcanic archipelago is located about 20 kilometers south of the Icelandic mainland and consists of a total of 14 islands. A drastic event was the eruption of the volcano Eldfell on Heimaey, the main island, in 1973. All inhabitants of the island had to be evacuated as soon as possible. But the lava flows were brought under control with the help of seawater. In the meantime, you can go hiking on the Eldfell volcano or along the coast. The panoramic view alone is definitely worth a visit to the islands!<\/p>\n\n

Dettifoss<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Dettifoss is the largest waterfall in the northeast of Iceland. The name means “falling waterfall”. Its head is about 45 meters and the average water flow is about 200 m\u00b3\/s. A massive sight to see when traveling to Iceland. The waterfalls Hafragilsfoss and Selfoss are also not far from Dettifoss.<\/p>\n\n

The dream of the blue lagoon<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

With its milky turquoise waters and dreamy setting of ancient lava fields, it’s no wonder that the Blue Lagoon is Iceland’s most popular attraction and geothermal swimming pool. It offers everything your heart desires: saunas and showers, algae masks and drinks, as well as a caf\u00e9 and the so-called Lava Restaurant, where you can enjoy the finest Icelandic cuisine. Anyone who has spent a weekend evening wandering through Reykjav\u00edk’s central street, past all the clubs and bars, knows: there are all kinds of crazy party people out and about here. For that reason alone, it’s worth a nighttime detour. But an evening out on the town can put quite a strain on the budget – because a small beer or a glass of wine costs an average of 10 euros. And if you’re dining out, be prepared for a bill of around 150 euros for a three-course meal for two. But with a dream trip like this, you can indulge yourself. <\/p>\n\n
