7 Lakes Series- Living on Lake Wörthersee (Part 1)
The Wörthersee
History
Lake Wörthersee is the largest lake in Carinthia and one of the warmest alpine lakes. The region around the lake was shaped by numerous different events in its formation and development. As early as 1436, a tavern in Velden was mentioned for the first time in a document.
The largest town on Lake Wörthersee is Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia. The historic downtown is located about four kilometers east of the lake. Klagenfurt includes the lakefront Europapark Klagenfurt and the Maria Loretto peninsula. The first public swimming pool was opened there in 1835. Pörtschach, which is considered a climatic health resort, has a lakeside promenade on the peninsula, which in the summer time acquires amazing beauty due to a sea of flowers.
The second largest town on Lake Wörthersee is Velden. The village became known to a wide public as the filming location of the television series “Ein Schloß am Wörthersee”.
The lake is considered a lifestyle destination due to its gourmet restaurants and events known throughout Austria, such as Fête Blanche, Pink Lake or Starnacht. In addition, the region offers many opportunities for athletes and hikers. The 55 kilometer long Wörthersee circular hike experiences a high popularity. But the most popular is the great excursion to the observation tower on the Pyramidenkogel.
And not to forget the little Wörtherseemandl. A bronze legend figure, which was designed in 1962 and is now located as a fountain figure in Kramergasse, at the corner of Dr.-Arthur-Lemisch-Platz. The basis for the monument was the “Legend of the Werder Lake”. It was already written down in 1837 by Johann Ritter Gallenstein in the booklet M.S. Mayer, “Noreja”.
The largest lake in Carinthia thus has a lot to offer. From breathtaking landscapes, to outstanding events and cuisine, to pleasurable swimming in turquoise green waters. It is one of the most popular vacation resorts in Austria. Visible in the fact that in 2018 the tourist region recorded about 1.6 million overnight stays with 465,000 arrivals. Most of the vacationers came from Austria, Germany and the Benelux countries.
Things to know
Data & Facts
Its size is 19.39 km² and it extends for 16.5 kilometers. The lake rests in a depression of the Klagenfurt basin. The lake basin extends from the Velden Bay to Klagenfurt. Lake Wörthersee is divided into three basins by islands and peninsulas. The western basin stretches from Velden to Pörtschach, the middle basin from Pörtschach to Maria Wörth and the eastern basin stretches from Maria Wörth to Klagenfurt. The peninsula of Maria Wörth was created as early as 1770, when an artificial outlet was created at the Alpine lake. This lowered the water level so much that the island became a peninsula. The deepest point of the lake is about 85 meters.
INTERVIEW
Insights into the latest project on Lake Wörthersee
Now follows the interview with another interview guest of the 7 Lakes Special, Melanie Sima from SIMA HOMES. We asked her a few questions about the “Nine Castles” project.
In front of us is the project “Nine Castles”. Why the name “Nine castles?
“Because we have nine highly exclusive residential units for sale.”
The project is really very already – what are the highlights?
“The project has many highlights. A small excerpt: We have a private lake access with a bathhouse and sunbathing areas directly on the water. Then we have a heated infinity pool, XXL terraces with an unobstructed panoramic view and spacious garden areas with indoor and outdoor sauna. The apartments are handed over fully equipped, so with interior and the highest technological standards. Walking distance to the golf course and the top restaurant Hubert Wallner may also be called a highlight with rarity value.”
And also for boat fans there is a highlight with rarity value
Correct – there are two buoys available to moor directly with the boat at the lake property.
The motto here is first come, first serve.
What is the name of the architectural team for the facility?
“Developer 1508 was able to attract Michael Schellander of S3 with timeless interior design.”
Is there anything particularly worth mentioning for all sports fans?
“As briefly mentioned, we are, after all, right next to the renowned Dellach golf course. We have a private fitness area right by the project and the opportunity for water sports right from our own dock.
The Carinthian mountains are also a paradise for all hiking and biking fans.”
How big are the apartments?
“The apartment sizes are 77-194m2.”
Of course, climate-friendly is also a big topic in luxury – what do the Nine Castles have to offer in this area?
“Exactly, and for that reason, there is a very specific sustainable air conditioning and heating system.”
For those who come not by boat but by car, where can be parked?
“There are 20 garage parking spaces at the project”.
Speaking of price, I know we have a hand-picked audience and you don’t like to talk about prices in luxury. But dear Melanie, can you give us a little guidance?
“We start around EUR 26,000 per square meter.”
In Kitzbühel, over 90% of buyers are from Germany and are getting younger. Keyword heir generation or successful start-ups. What is the profile of the classic buyer on Lake Wörthersee?
“The most frequent buyers are aged 45 to 55 from Vienna, Lower Austria and Styria. Around 1/3 are international buyers.”
