A successful summer picnic – with checklist & recipes
Summertime is picnic time! But to create a successful picnic requires some preparation. A checklist can help here so that you don’t forget anything. Choosing the right food also plays a role in a successful picnic. Get inspired and enjoy the warm days outdoors with family and friends at an unforgettable summer picnic.
Matching dishes
Perfect for a meal in the meadow are dishes that are convenient to pack, transport and serve. From sandwiches and sandwiches, to finger foods, salads and snacks, everything comes into question. The great thing is that most of the recipes do not require much effort. On the contrary, they are prepared in no time and snacks or finger foods are the best choice anyway.
Finger food : It is good if you prepare the food cut into bite-sized pieces so that it can be eaten easily with your fingers.
Snack Vegetables, Vegetable Sticks & Spreads: Easy snacks include cocktail tomatoes, snack peppers and snack cucumbers that can be eaten in one bite. Vegetable sticks are also a great option for dipping in spreads like chutneys, pesto or hummus. Baguette and cheese cubes go perfectly with it.
Desserts : Sweet treats include muffins, cookies, scones, strawberry shortcake, nut buns, small cakes or desserts in jars. They are easy to transport. At best, they should not crumble or stick too much. Chocolate, whipped cream or hearty creams should be avoided, as they are not only difficult to transport, but also melt away in the sun.
Simple and quick picnic ideas
Dips with few ingredients – such as an onion dip or pea and mint dip – can be made in a snap and are a great addition to many picnic dishes. Vegetable sticks made of carrots, cucumbers and peppers taste especially good with creamy dips. And if you do not want to give up sweets, you can choose colorful fruit skewers of grapes, bananas, tangerines, strawberries, cherries, apples, pears and mangoes, or a fruit salad of everything. Drizzle the fruit with lemon juice, it tastes refreshing and keeps it fresh longer in warm temperatures.
Hearty picnic recipes to prepare
Colorful sandwiches and rolls are the classics among the hearty picnic recipes. Yeast pockets or puff pastry particles can also be prepared with delicious fillings. Mini quiches are also a good idea.
When it comes to salads, it’s best to prepare ones that won’t get limp even after a long time – pasta salad, couscous salad, potato salad or rice salad are suitable candidates. The dressing can be packed separately. Dressings with vinegar and oil also keep better than creamy dressings.
Other delicious dishes include minced meat loaf, saté skewers or schnitzel. They taste great even when cold. Also top: tomato-mozzarella skewers (recipe below).
Sparkling refreshment
What could be better than sipping iced drinks in the sun? In summer temperatures, it is important to drink enough anyway. Especially popular are homemade iced teas or lemonades. A chilled beer, fruit juice or iced coffee is also a good choice. You can then pour the drinks into thermos flasks or put them in a cooler bag. There they stay nice and cool for a long period of time. If drinking from cups at the picnic, remember lids. Otherwise, wasps, fruit flies or other insects quickly come to visit.
