Christmas tree 2023 – the trends
The same Christmas tree decorations every year get boring at some point. Why not try something different this year – we’ve looked around for inspiration.
A decorated Christmas tree shining in candlelight on Christmas Eve is probably the symbol of Christmas. Did you know that the first Christmas tree in Vienna was found in 1814 – in the house of the banker Baron Nathan von Arnstein at Hoher Markt 1? Arnstein’s wife Fanny, a native of Berlin, had brought the custom from her home country to the Danube and distributed gifts and souvenirs to the invited guests, which she had previously attached to the Christmas tree. In the years that followed, the custom gradually became established in the homes of the nobility and upper middle classes. It was not until around 1829 that trees were sold to the public, for example at Schottentor and Am Hof, and it was in this year that the first public Christmas tree was erected in Vienna, in Währing.
The tradition around the Christmas tree
Decorated Christmas trees already had a long tradition back then: for example, a Christmas tree was first put up in Strasbourg Cathedral in 1539. Incidentally, the roots of this custom lie with the Celts, Germanic tribes and Romans, who brought evergreen branches into their homes around the winter solstice on December 21 as a symbol of life. This custom gradually developed into that of the Christmas tree. While it was initially decorated only with candles and/or nuts and apples, today there are no limits to the imagination when it comes to Christmas tree decorations.

How about a Christmas tree that enchants onlookers in the colors black and white? This color combination also looks incredibly cool and not at all gloomy on the Christmas tree – especially when combined with glass Christmas tree baubles. If you want a particularly stylish look, you can opt for a high-quality artificial Christmas tree in white instead of a real tree or give the real classic a white dress with artificial snow. Whether you opt for the minimalist or the lavish version is up to you.
A squeaky colorful Christmas tree
The counter-program to this is a tree lavishly decorated with colorful Christmas tree decorations. There are virtually no limits to your imagination when it comes to choosing colors – red, pink, turquoise, blue, yellow – anything is possible. Either in a monochrome look or a colorful mix. The tree becomes even funnier when other pieces are added to the classic Christmas tree bauble – after all, tree decorations are already available in the shape of reindeer, high heels, cars, animals, etc.

Why not decorate the Christmas tree the way it was when you were a child? With straw or paper stars, tinsel, wooden figures, dried orange slices, apples, nuts, chocolate decorations, wind rings and the like, it not only pleases the eye but also the stomach.
